ELICOS program
Level / Class
During their primary years, students are provided with a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy that will help them throughout their education and their life. There is a wide choice of specialist subject areas offered, including Science, Physical Education, Japanese, Art, Music, Instrumental Program and Library. We are also involved with numerous service projects. We see each child as an individual and ensure they feel valued, safe and confident. We have a strong pastoral care and support system starting with the classroom teacher.The move to secondary school is an exciting time where students look forward to new friendships, new adventures and greater independence. Our aim during the Middle Years (Years 7 to 9) is to provide an education that is responsive and appropriate to the developmental needs of young adolescents. We ensure students are engaged in their learning, with opportunities such as our Year 9 program where students participate in an innovative range of learning experiences that are designed to foster leadership and independence. The Senior Years (Years 10 to 12) offer a variety of academic and co-curricular opportunities to engage and motivate every student. All students are known personally and encouraged to discover and develop their strengths in a learning environment that celebrates achievement. Our leading Three Year Senior Studies program works to ensure students get the most out of their senior studies while gaining the tools for a successful university transition. It is an evolution of our ground breaking Year 9 ‘Out of Classroom’ program in which students experience university life. Ivanhoe Grammar School has a long history of enrolling international students and welcomes students of all nationalities and faiths. Boys and girls may be enrolled at any primary or secondary level. Most international students spend time in the ELICOS (Intensive English) Program before moving to mainstream classes. Ivanhoe Grammar School is accredited by NEAS (National ELT Accreditation Scheme) as a provider of ELICOS Programs. Once adequate levels of English have been reached, students progress to mainstream classes and study English as a Second Language (ESL) as a subject.
Facilities
We are a multi campus school. Our Plenty Campus offers residents in the Northern Growth Corridor easy access to one of Melbourne’s leading schools. Combining the benefits of an innovative new campus with the advantages of the teaching and curriculum knowledge of an established school, Plenty Campus provides a leading co-educational program for Prep to Year 12. The Ivanhoe Campus is Ivanhoe Grammar School’s original campus and has earned its reputation over years of providing leading education possibilities. It offers co-educational education from Early Learning to Year 12 and offers students every opportunity to grow through a diverse and exciting range of programs. Senior students at The Ridgeway Campus have the option of studying the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma as an alternative to the VCE. There is also an extensive ELICOS program and a dedicated International Centre. The School constantly upgrades facilities and IT systems so our students have access to the best resources possible. In the past few years we have proudly opened a new Creative Arts Centre, a primary science and performing arts building, a state-of-the-art secondary science facility, a new School Café, a Food Technology Centre and an International Centre. Within the next few years our extensive sporting facilities will be upgraded along with a range of other planned innovations.
